FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What trailer models drop to the ground?

Every trailer in the Air-tow line drops flat to the ground for quick and easy loading and unloading.

What is GVWR?
Gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR or GVW) is the maximum amount of weight the trailer is able to safely hold and transport. A trailer’s total GVW is made up of the weight of the trailer and the maximum load capacity of that specific trailer. For example, if the trailer weighs 4,000 lbs. and has a capacity of 10,000 lbs. The GVWR is 14,000 lbs.
What type of vehicle do I need to tow this trailer?

Your vehicle’s maximum towing capacity should exceed the weight of your trailer and cargo. For example, if the trailer weighs 4,000 lbs. and the equipment being carried weighs 5,000 lbs. your vehicle’s towing capacity should be more than 9,000 lbs.

What kind of license do I need to tow these trailers?

According to federal law, a class A license is required when the trailer’s GVWR exceeds 10,000 lbs. A class C license can be used for trailers with a GVWR under 10,000 lbs. It is the responsibility of the trailer owner and operator to ensure their trailer complies with local and national regulations.

Can I get my trailer in different colors?

Yes you can. Royal blue is the standard color for all Air-tow trailers, but you can choose from black, white, red, orange, green and yellow for an additional fee. Any custom colors, that were not previously listed, will require a custom quote.

How wide is the usable space on the trailer deck?

We’ve pushed the D-rings all the to the edge of the trailer and eliminated all of the “extra” space to give you 75″ of usable deck width on all of our trailers except the RS8-32 (which has 52″) and the SN10-55 (which has 57″). The best part is that we’re able to add 5″ more than everyone else without increasing the overall width of the trailer.

Do you make trailers in custom sizes?

No, we have set sizes for all Air-tow trailer models. Our longest trailer is 16 ft.

How does Air-tow Trailers’ air suspension work?

Air is pumped directly into the air bags by two independent air compressors, one on each side of the trailer.  The axles on each side of the trailer are monitored by electronic sensors. As the axle deflects because weight is added, the compressor in turned on to increase the air bag pressure. When weight is removed the sensor initiates air release from the air bags. This allows a super smooth ride when the trailer is empty and a super smooth, firm ride when fully loaded.

How sensitive is the air suspension system?

So sensitive that even a person stepping up on the trailer deck will cause air to be pumped into the air bags. This automatic adjustment for the weight carried is what makes Air-tow Trailers’ full air suspension so outstanding.  You always have the super smooth ride regardless of the load.

Does the air suspension work in cold weather?

Yes, unlike some air systems, the Air-tow compressors pump air through a short hose directly into the air bags. There is no steel air tank or metal air lines that can cause condensation and freezing.
